Sammelband with works by John Milton, Charles Herle, Giles Mascall, and others (1642-1658)

Sammelband containing the following six ecclesiastical works “and others in the volume.”

1. Milton, John. The reason of church-governement urg’d against prelaty by Mr. John Milton : in two books (London, 1641 [i.e. 1642]) ESTC R3223.
2. A Directory for the publique worship of God, throughout the three kingdoms of England, Scotland, and Ireland : together with an ordinance of Parliament for the taking away of the Book of Common-Prayer (London, 1644 [i.e. 1645]) Several editions in ESTC.
3. Westminster Assembly. The confession of faith, together with the larger and lesser catechismes : composed by the reverend Assembly of Divines, sitting at Westminster, presented to both Houses of Parliament (London, 1658) Several editions in ESTC.
4. The government of the Church of Scotland fully declared : wherein is largely set forth the order and uniformitie to be observed in the realme of Scotland, concerning doctrine, administrations of the sacraments, election of ministers, provision for their sustentation, ecclesiasticall discipline and policy of the Church, as it is now practised (London, 1647) ESTC R27388.
5. Herle, Charles. The independency on Scriptures of the independency of churches : wherein the question of independency of church-government is temperately, first, stated; secondly, argued: thirdly, cleerd from the objections: and fourthly, appeald in, to the judgements of such as stand for it (London, 1643) ESTC R13461.
6. Mascall, Giles. A treatise against superstitious Jesu-worship : wherein the true sense of Phil. 2. 9, 10. is opened, and from thence is plainly shewed, and by sundry arguments proved, that corporall bowing at the name Jesus, is neither commanded, grounded, nor warranted thereupon (London, 1642) ESTC R28636.

Unlocated. It is possible that this text belonged to one of Wolfreston’s sons, Stanford or Francis Wolferstan, given their keener interests in matters ecclesiastical.
